TIV (Fernsehsender, 1996 – 2001)

Private Television Station in Vienna

TIV – the sexy Sender (an older slogan was also: T.I.V. – True Image Vision), was a commercial TV-Station in Vienna/Austria (1996 – End of 2001).
It was one of the first private Stations in Austria after the change of Austrian Cable Law in 1995, which allowed broadcasting in Cable Systems for other parties than State-TV ORF.

Wikipedia: More @ Wikipedia (German) about T.I.V.

The station was founded by Axel Stockburger, Thomas Madersbacher an me, and together with Thomas I was CEO for several years of the limited company. Axel did artwork for several ongoing years for GOTV.

Target groups were – similar to FM4 (ORF radio) and Falter (Vienna city weekly) – oriented on „young educated adults* interested in „music, arts and politics“. Moderators & editorial leads came from the same sources.

Shows were daily on air for two hours (20.15 – 21.15h PrimeTime, 23 – 24h LateNight) on UPC Cable Network Vienna as first milestone, and aimed to reach an 24h agreement with cable providers as second milestone later.

TIV was first in Austria introducing

  • regular internet broadcasts (IPTV)
  • community driven content production incl. participative elements (Community Generated TV)

I left end of 2000, and one year later TIV was „retired“ end of 2001 . The company – under a new name – did run GOTV  as a sole music TV broadcaster until 2022.
